everywhere
even in the most
unlikely of places
how often we look
up to the heavens
for sustenance or salvation
while here and now
down-to-earth glorious beings
tuck away the pain
of their abuse beneath
welcoming wings of kindness
there is love to be found
everywhere
even on dirt floors and in the company
of difficulty and deprivation
how often we single out
the grandest gestures of magnanimity
while the beseeching eyes
of hungry orphans
glorious beings one and all
are being answered with
simple servings of bread and caring
their curious minds nurtured and
empowered by the sowing
of seeds of learning
there is a web of human kindness
everywhere
that reaches story by story and
hand by hand
across the great divides
of physical space and cultural diversity
how often we struggle
with the magnitude of suffering
and yet
all it takes is a willingness to
see feel touch
the pain and possibility
of another as one’s own and
the heartfulness to respond
as the glorious and courageous beings
we were born to be!
